Artist's Statement

I question the impact of humanity on nature.  Genetic engineering, selective breeding, sterile seeds, technological enhancement, and a myriad of “improvements” to our environment have produced hybrids. Some are good, some bad, and too many are unexpected.

I use collage elements to represent the foreign elements that humanity has introduced in the name of improving nature.  I use paint elements to refer to the original plant or animal.

I grew up in San Antonio , TX., married in 1975, and still have my first husband. We have two children. We moved to North Carolina in 1997, built, and ran a B&B and llama farm.

I've been a potter, jewelry designer, llama trekker, and innkeeper. Since we sold our inn in 2005, I have been able to focus on painting and writing again. We live in a rural area with a hand hewn log cabin on the property. The people who built and lived in that cabin had skills and the desire to make things. I identify with those who call themselves makers.
