RAPG

This project was funded, in part, by a Regional Artist Project Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, administered by
the Arts Council of Henderson County.

The Haywood Arts Council and the Transylvania Community Arts Council cooperated and reviewed this grant. I would like to thank them
for this opportunity and I believe that I have used the grant money to the best of my ability. It nudged me into trying a project on a much bigger scale than I was used to. In these tough economic times I was especially aware that the money from the grant was significant.

My painting was a starting point, but the project grew as I spoke with cancer survivors and their families. I would have never thought of all of the hair care products that are useless when you have no hair. Many people think that artists have some mystical ability called talent. In my case, starting with skills that I had in bookbinding, sewing, writing, carpentry, and décor I began my project. It didn't take long for the Chemo Today to take over, and give me plenty of leads. So many ideas came along, that I had to start limiting the elements or my closet would resemble Fibber McGee's and not tell of the struggle to get dressed when you are sick and bald.

My future work will be greatly expanded because of what I learned creating "Chemo Today."
